If you want to upload a video directly to ViewMedica, see the tutorial on uploading a video.

From the loop, presentation, collection or bumpers builder

  1. Click the blue “Add Videos +” button. Select the “Create Video” option.

  2. Click either “YouTube Video” or “Vimeo Video.”

  3. Give the video a title. This title will be seen in the ViewMedica menu system. Use a descriptive name so you and your patients can easily find it in your On-Demand menu.

  4. Enter the YouTube or Vimeo video ID. Click the “Preview” button to make sure the code is correct and the video you were expecting loads.

  5. Hit the blue “Save” button. Now you will see the video in your list.

  6. Videos can be grabbed and dragged to new positions in a loop, presentation, or collection. They are also available under the “My Saved Videos” link in your account.

How to get the YouTube or Vimeo video ID

Go to the video on YouTube or Vimeo. Select the “Share” tab near the Like buttons and copy the text field that has the URL link “https://…”. That’s the video ID code you need to paste into ViewMedica.

Note

You can also create new video slides from the "My Saved Videos" link under the "Content" section of your dashboard. Click the blue “+ Create New” button to bring up the slide template library.

YouTube video settings to keep in mind

As long as your YouTube channel uses the standard default video settings, your videos should run fine in ViewMedica. But there are a couple of settings that will keep the videos from playing in ViewMedica.

Allow Embedding

By default, this is checked on. That’s good. If you do not allow embedding, the video will not play in ViewMedica. You can find this setting in the video’s “Advanced Settings” on YouTube.

Privacy

By default, your YouTube videos are made “Public” which means that everyone in the world can watch them. That’s good. If you change this setting to “Private,” the video will not play in ViewMedica. You can find this setting in the video’s “Basic Info” on YouTube. The third option for privacy is “Unlisted” which means anyone, even ViewMedica, can watch this video, but the link to the video will not be visible on your YouTube channel.

Advertisements

If you do not want ads to pop up over your videos, you’ll need to update your YouTube settings. Go to your channel’s “Advanced Settings.” There you will be able to select “Disable interest-based ads.” See YouTube support for more information on disabling ads.

Note

Turning off advertisements will not work if you do not have the ability to "Monetize" a video. See YouTube support for more information on disabling ads.

Smart devices

For some tablet devices and smartphones, VMcast looping and the “Play All” feature for On-Demand presentations are not fully supported when YouTube videos are used.

Vimeo video settings to keep in mind

As long as your Vimeo video uses the standard default video settings, your videos should run fine in ViewMedica. But there are a few settings that will keep the videos from playing in ViewMedica.

Allow Embedding

By default, embedding for Vimeo videos is set to “Anywhere.” That’s good. If you do not allow embedding, the video will not play in ViewMedica. You can find this setting in the video’s “Privacy” section in your video manager on Vimeo.

Privacy

By default, your Vimeo videos are made “Public” which means that anyone can watch the video and it will be discoverable in search engines. That’s good. Other Vimeo settings of “Unlisted” and “Hide from Vimeo” will also allow your video to play within ViewMedica. If you change this setting to “Password” or “Private,” the video will not play in ViewMedica. See Vimeo’s support for additional information on privacy settings.
